haven by mary lindsey finds rain ryland moving to a small texas town to live with an aunt he never knew existed and discovering a whole new world beyond normal.
most of his life he's bounced from town to town, honeless shelter to homeless shelter with his mother who was generally high on something. finding himself dropped into a proper home with a loving aunt and a small town where everyone knows everyone else is an adjustment.
but from the moment he arrives in new wurzburg it's obvious that things aren't what they seem. on the surface it appears to be a snall town in the middle of texas hill country. but there's something off about it. and there's this eerie spooky atmosphere that heightens the tension nicely.
when rain first encounters friederike burkhart he's intrigued by her tough girl attitude and gorgeous, unique blue eyes. when he keeps running into freddie with no clothes on he's certain there's something crazy going on. but it takes some time for her to trust an outsider. the way the relationship between rain and freddie sparks and pulls them together is just perfect.
i really just enjoyed everything about this book. the atmosphere, the characters, the actual plot. i tend to not seek out shifter romances, but i also just read haven by karen lynch and really liked it too. so maybe it's that i like young adult werewolves, or maybe i should just read more in a genre i clearly already like.
**haven will publish on november 7, 2017. i received a early hardcover edition of the novel courtesy of entangled publishing (entangled: teen) in exchange for my honest review.
